Ranch Description

Price Reduced. The Upper Michigan "Wildcat Hilton" Cabin is for Sale. The Wildcat Hilton is a well equipped, 2 Bedroom Cabin located on a privately held 160 acre wooded parcel in very remote west-central Marquette County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Wildcat Canyon is a steep little rugged gorge on the far west end of the Silver Lake Basin. Tiny creeks drain a series of swamps down the canyon and flow over a variety of waterfalls. Some of the drops are tall cascades over hard rock, some are sideways slides along slabs, and some others are direct plunges. This area is wonderfully scenic. If trekking in the outdoors, fishing and hunting is what you seek, this area is one you should experience. The Dead River, Conors, Voelkers and Wildcat Canyon Creeks (Type 1 Fishing streams) are close by. The property is just south of the Silver Lake Basin. Silver Lake is a 1,214-acre impoundment in the Dead River watershed. An earthen dam burst on the Dead River in the Silver Lake Basin on May 15, 2003. Prior to this dam failure, the sport fishery of Silver Lake Basin was noted for quality trout, bass and yellow perch populations. The lake provided a cold water trout fishery and was stocked with brook trout and splake. The dam failure allowed northern pike, a species previously absent from the lake, to gain access to and colonize this water body from downstream waters. Subsequently, all stocking of trout was ceased because stocked fish would only have served as forage for the pike. In 2011 after reconstruction projects the basin waters started to again rise, and in early May 2013 it finally reached its full water storage capacity. Future management plans for this basin include development of a bluegill fishery through stocking of pure-strain fish. These bluegills should thrive with the basin's extensive shallow stump-field shoals that provide excellent pan fish spawning habitat. The McCormick Tract, a portion of the North Country Trail (a 4,600 mile long hiking trail running through seven northern states) is a short drive away. Trail No. 5, a major North-South Snowmobile Trail through the Central U.P., is a mile from this parcel. Hunting for Whitetail deer can be done on the property and on adjoining CFA parcels. The mixed hardwood forest, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries attract a variety of wildlife that includes Deer, Bear, and Moose - check out the Moose visiting the front yard.
