Ranch Description
Poso Creek Ranch a Private Mountain Inholding Surrounded by Rio Grande National Forest. A perfect place to unplug from today's hectic lifestyle. The story began 45 years ago, back in '73. A U.S. Air Force officer found Poso Creek Ranch, comprising +/ within the Rio Grande National Forest, tucked away about a mile behind Poso Mountain. He called on a few fellow officers and friends to share in his vision and join in the purchase. They secured a place for their families, surrounded by millions of acres of forest. They camped in the early years, then pooled their resources and a custom cabin was finished in 1997, powered by solar with backup generator and propane. Families have enjoyed trout fishing, ATV rides, mountain biking, hiking on the miles of surrounding national forest trails, campfires and smores around the fire pit in the evening, and an occasional Thanksgiving holiday at the ranch. The families have also enjoyed several successful elk and mule deer hunts. Thus, the legacy of Poso Creek Ranch was created. Over 40 years the partners' families grew, with children and then grandchildren coming along. Life happens, generations pass, and for the very first time, this National Forest Inholding is being offered. The partners can tell you where, over the years, more than a hundred elk have been harvested on and around the ranch. This son took his first bull here. A grandson took his first there. On average, the partners have hosted 12-16 fellow member elk hunters a year, with deer, and small game a secondary focus. Game Management Unit 79 has traditionally been a 100 draw, but check Colorado regulations. Mostly 6 point bulls and cow elk have been harvested with an occasional 7x7, and some very nice mule deer bucks harvested and the odd monster occasionally spotted. Public access trout streams are within a mile, and thousands of acres of hiking, Atv, and mountain biking trails adjoin the property. One of the partners especially enjoys riding his ATV on the nearby trails and says, An ATV ride to remember is the 12 plus mile ride past fishable streams and quaking aspen to the above tree line summit of Boot Mountain.
