The Township was first settled by French Canadians loggers in the 1880S. It was named by its' first postmasters' town of origin - Covington, Kentucky. After forestlands became depleted, farming became more prevalent. Swedish and Finnish settlers started arriving in the late 1890S to continue harvesting cordwood and pulp wood, and develop farms for raising dairy cattle and field crops. There are many cultural and entertainment events held at the Covington Multi-Purpose Building. The large pavilion there provides outdoor activities in the summer and a skating/hockey rink in the winter. A ski hill with a rope tow is enjoyed by people for skiing, sledding, and snowboarding. A Historical Museum downtown has many interesting items about the area. From the Marquette Intersection of West Washington Street and Lincoln Avenue head west on West Washington to Highway US-41. Take US-41 west 55 miles to (The Covington) M-28/US-141 Junction. Take a left and continue west on M-28 5.9 miles to East Ford Road. Take a left and go 2.1 miles to Pit Road. Take a left and go 3.4+/- miles on Pit Road, which becomes a “Woods Trail” to the property Offered for Sale. (At the end of a gravel pit, you will need an ATV type vehicle Or Walk to travel the last 1.35 miles to the property.) One bridge that needs to be crossed is only 69 Inches Wide.
